That person will take the place of the Eb bass player of decades past.

In decades past? In decades past?!

Just kidding, Rick. I've taken playing an Eb in one community band because the other tubas are convinced that the upper parts in a divisi are really ossia. So I play them on my eefer and I suspect that they're more audible 100 feet away than the stuff below the staff being grunted out by the contrabasses.

It's kind of funny that there's not much commentary on Eb bass brass band parts on this BBs. The brass band that I'm in is currently working on the Ireland "Downland Suite" and the Eb parts are as devilish as any tuba part I've ever seen in orchestral literature.
