Some will tell you that a silver horn sounds brighter than its laquered version because the silver plate is thinner than the laquer. Besson, in their sales literature, claims their studies show there is no difference in sound. I have not been able to tell the difference and I have been playing euph for 52 years and have played on both silver and laquered Besson Sovereigns. I think the player and the mouthpiece will have a greater effect on tone quality than the finish. I play euphonium in the Denver Concert Band and our section has 3 silver BE-967s and 1 silver 2900. I bought my Besson in silver strictly for the uniformity of appearance when playing in this band.
