A large music school might mean competing with music majors for slots in "all campus band." We've had trombone majors show up in our brass band to get more ensemble experience--three trombone faculty = oodles of players for the available ensembles.
Places like Ohio State have students *audition* intead of being *forced* to be in the marching band. Go for the best school for the day job--and find musical opportunties there or out in the communities. Many communities have orchestras, bands, brass bands, etc. and it's really good to not spend all of your time with the same undergrads. Also may be good private lesson choices, but then again, can't devote more time to the hobby than one's education.
