Rick,
I found that to be the case when I got my K&M, and that it was a big problem. Quick and easy solution? I cut off 1" of the top of the stem [where it attaches to the saddle]with a hacksaw;it now is at the proper height for my 186 at it's lowest position for the lowest plastic chairs.
