Your first chair? Wow Rob, it seems like you know everything. "If you know a chromatic scale, you know all the notes." Have you ever been in an audition situation? Knowing your chromatic scale is completely different than knowing your major, minor, harmonic minor, etc..... Knowing all of your scales is extremely important in becoming a better player. Instead of whining about this, you should shake your band directors hand for taking the time to work on scales with you. Or, just continue to not set any kind of example for your peers, parents and director. Good luck if you plan on playing after highschool.
