I seriously doubt there would be any plating. It could be plating from the piston that had rubbed off on the inside of the casing, probably just a stain, not any thickness. You wouldn't have noticed it until it was cleaned. Ultrasonic cleaning solution sometimes stains metal too, and can pit bad plating or lacquer.
