This will make you crazy. A few years ago when I got my first "Navy York"
(see cooltubas.com) I was told of a store in Kansas City that bought up
all the used military instruments (many Yorks included) in the 30s and 40s.
Their basement was
full of them for years. In the 80s Kansas City was hit with a flood that,
amounge other things, fill that basement with water. When they had it cleaned
out the workers saw the soggy cases (falling apart) so loaded everything up (dozens and dozens of them)
and hauled them all to the dump. By the time the owner discovered what
had happened they had been burned and buried. OUCH! Talk about PAAAAINNNN!
