I think the reverse is true--at least electrolytic corrosion in the presence of moisture, which is why aluminum boats aren't built with steel rivets--and why better water heaters have a magnesium "sacrificial anode" incorporated. However, same-materials are more prone to a sort of molecular adhesion (called "galling"), but you usually don't see that in a comparatively loose-fitting assembly like a piston in a casing.
