I agree. Pawn shops are not always the most reputable businesses around. You have no idea whether the owner or management is honest or in collusion with some crack-head who picks up musical instruments for them.

If the pawn operator is anything less than honest, then advance warning will do nothing but compromise the situation of the victim.

In this day of ebay and internet access and what have you, any pawn operator should be leary of any musical instruments that come through their door, if they are 100% honest.

The only thing keeping most pawns up and running is the existence of criminal activity and poor consumer education.

I think they should start taking Polaroid pictures of all the people who come in and keep them under file with the appropriate paperwork. This way the police can have an insant physical ID. Plus, it would help Polaroid regain some market share.
