After reading all the below comments just one thing comes to mind... I spent a couple of years as an engineering manager with a company that SPECIALIZES in accoustical matters and one thing is for certain: you can do all the engineering you want but the proof is in the building of a prototype. Seemingly minor changes sometimes make things happen that you NEVER expected to happen. At the same time... major changes sometimes make very little impact on the accoustic properties. I am confident that very minor manufacturing differences that are virtually undetectable to the eye can make big differences on the oscilloscope.
