In my humble opinion, for the little difference in sound it would make, it is not worth it for the unprofesional and shabby look it has on stage.
Once a raw brass instrument starts to tarnish, and that is usually fairly quickly, they look like a pile of junk whether the audience member is sitting in the front row or the stalls somewhere in the next postcode.
Before, anyone responds by saying that there is a huge difference in the sound quality, I challenge anyone to sit blind folded and pick the difference between a silver, nickle or gold plated, laquered or raw brass horn.
