I hate to admit this, but I was flipping channels the other day and came across an old Guy Lombardo show. I swear that I found it by accident. Anyway, the tuba player had a recording style horn with a huge diameter bell. It looked to be the size of a sousaphone bell.
My question is do all of these tubas have such large bells. If so, what is the purpose?
