Is "oom-pah" really all that bad?

Maybe it's just me, but...

Whenever I hear someone else talking about marches, or polkas, or anything else where the tuba mainly plays on 1 and 3, they don't seem to like playing those kinds of parts.

Perhaps I'm getting too old too early -- I genuinely dig "oom-pah" stuff. There's something about a good march (or even a halfway decent one) that's just so cool, and I'm not enough of a poet to describe it.

Is the negative/highbrow perception something along the lines of, "If it doesn't do musical gymnastics, it's not musically viable"?

Just a mild beef right now...
