I've tried the DEG tuba rest for a few rehearsals with my 3302, and here's what I think for now:

Benefits -- gets the horn off your body, less effort to hold, generally easier to play.

Drawbacks -- less portable than going stand-less, another mechanism to tweak with, feels a bit more precarious than the lap, the chicks don't think you're macho,... :)

What's my decision? I'm not sure yet. Maybe I'll use it when it's not much trouble, and not worry about it when rehearsals are more mobile. My 3302 needs a height boost, either from my lap or the DEG stand; the taller Zeiss sits on the chair very well, and a stand wouldn't be enough of a change.
