I spent a day at the Brasswind this week trying out CCs for one of the colleges where I work. At the risk of being berated for my perhaps unpopular opinion, I suggest you consider the Mirafone S-186 5-valve. I found it to be a very fine instrument that compared quite favorably with the Meinls, Cervenys and VMIs. It is an old, time-honored design that still serves very well at a reasonable price. Another multi-use tuba to consider will be the new Dillon-developed CC that UMI is bringing out. I tried one of the prototypes this summer at the factory, and it was very good. The only instrument that seemed better that day at the Brasswind was the 2155. Good luck with the search.
