I recently switched from the standard Conn Helleburg, and play a Rudy Meinl 5/4 CC. I too was looking for something with a larger shank, since the Helleburg went in a little past "all the way". I have found a very nice MP is the Dillon M1C with a large shank. It is a very open blowing MP, and helps generate a HUGE sound. I highly recommend it for big contrabass tuba parts (Ride, Fountains of Rome, any Prokofiev, etc.).

I haven't tried one yet, but Scott Laskey has a Helleburg in production that is supposed to be very good, too. Gene Pokorney has been experimenting with it recently, and he has been an advocate of the M1C.

Hope this helps.
