OK Lurker, I'll bite:
Limiting myself to pieces ORIGINALLY written for tuba, and reserving the right to choose PART of a piece,
I really like the second movement of John Williams' Tuba Concerto because:
-It completely gets away from the characters of typical tuba solos, in that it is neither "cute" (like, let's face it, even the Vaughan Williams Concerto is), nor a corny "pomposo" piece ("Pomposo" can mean anything from the cornball "theme and variation" stuff written in the 20's and 30's up to and including [hhhhhhhhhhhhuuuuuuuuuhhhhh!!!] the Hindemith Sonata and beyond.) **WHOOPS! Did I just blast two "sacred cows" in one sentence?**
-It is very expressive, very dramatic, very emotional, and finally exposes the ability of tuba music to have a "dreamy" quality.
-It is REALLY fun to play, particularly if you have top notch english horn, flute, and string players.
