If you use a gig bag to fly you had better spring for a seat for your tuba. If you want to know why, find a window at your local airport and watch the baggage handlers put baggage on the planes. I have seen two tubas that came off planes looking like they got in the way of a water buffalo stampede so I really wouldn't recomend checking your tuba through in a gig bag.
