If I were you, I'd go with "replacement value" insurance. That way, there is no need for appraisals, just catalog values which are easily copied and sent yearly. This is what I do and it makes the most sense to me. Think about it, if your horn is wrecked or stolen and you get a check for the depreciated value of your used tuba, how will you afford a new horn? Even with replacement insurance you'll still have to deal with taxes and shipping which can really add up. My approach is to minimize the initial out of pocket costs as much as possible. It is going to be hard enough for you to find a suitable replacement without having to worry about how much it costs. Good luck!
