That's true, but if the console and DAT recorder are truely high quality, the signal-to-noise ratio will be quite tolerable even in a pianissimo viola pizz. passage.
Playback systems always seem to be the main problem these days, as was verified earlier.
It's amazing that in an age when great digital recording is so cheap and easy, so much sound reinforcement is still shoddy.
