Maybe you should try out some different models of horns before you commit. I had a 186 for a couple years, and every day I had it I regretted not saving a little more and getting something else. Perantucci 4/4s are not too expensive, and almost everyone I know (pretty diverse groups) agree that they are much better than the miraphone student models.
A new hirsbrunner would be a bit much, but there's no point in playing a horn that will hold you back, when there are better ones within the same price range.
188s are a different story.
Having your teacher help out is the best advice you can get right now.
