Rather than taking "shortcuts" to make buzzing easier, take a long hard look at how you are buzzing. 99.9% of the time, lip swelling is caused by poor technique, whether it be with the mouthpiece on the horn, or just with the mouthpiece itself. Get with your private teacher and have him look at how you're buzzing your mouthpiece. If you're not buzzing on the mouthpiece exactly as you would if it were on the horn, then you'd might as well not be buzzing at all. Best of luck!
