Mr. Dave Zerkel(sp?)showed me a very good, easy, and FAST (yes, fast) way to improve my high register. Start with an open note, and lip slur all the way up as high as you can confortably go, and back down. Press your 2nd valve, and then do the same thing. Then with 1st, then 3rd, then 4th, then 2+4, then 1+4, then 3+4, then 2+3+4, then 1+3+4, then finally all four valves (with five valves it gets intersting).

It'll be bad out of tune, but it gets your lips flexible. I did this a few times, and wow, my high range increased by about 3/4 of an octave. Pretty impressive method i say.

PS, After that i pulled out a trombone and played up real high to get my lips used to the feeling. Then i went to my tuba, played up high a while, and then topped it all off with some low stuff.

This all really helps my range, in both directions.

My 2 cents

Doug
