I read that you buzzed for an hour? That sounds like a very long time to me. Buzzing is very tiring on the lips and the fact you suffered damage says you did it too long or with too few breaks. Even with my horn I tend to play for too long at one sitting (an hour) without almost constant playing. When my lips continue to buzz after a minute or soaway from the horn I take a 10 minute break and come back. I sound alot better when I do. Think about it. During a rehearsal with most ensembles you have rests or breaks while some section (usually the clarinets or trumpets!) work on their parts. Solitary practice is hard on your lips. And solitary buzzing is even harder. I seem to recall hearing somewhere that you should never buzz for more than 10 minutes at one time and to never do it without a mouthpiece or a mouthpiece ring. Anyone else have an opinion on that?
