There are many amateur places to play in the greater Rochester area. I was a student there in the early-mid 90's and remember the Pittsford Symphony, Brighton Symphony, and Pennfield Symphony. I don't remember any other names, but I know there are more out there. I think there are some decent community bands as well. If I recall correctly there may also be a metro Rochester band that is made up of many public school band directors, I would try talking to some of the high school band teachers in the area, they might have some good ideas.
