If you're going to college and you've never played a big CC horn (as you seemed to be implying by the bore size, which actually has little meaning in relationship to horn size), you won't want to start playing on one right away. The 186 is an excellent all-around horn and will definitely get you through almost all situations until you reach the pros (if you make it). Most upperclassmen and grad students that I know received their large CCs at the end of their junior year or later after already having owned a middle sized CC. While we're on the topic, an excellent large CC to look into is the Rudy Meinl with the .866 bore (can't remember the model number). Also look at the new Boosey and Hawkes' Walter Nirschl model as well as the new Miraphone 1295.
