Chuck, it depends on how deep the pits are. If the pits are really, really deep, say, half a millimeter, then you'd have to build a monstrously heavy plate with copper, and then machine off the copper from the inside of the mouthpiece, lest it change the playing characteristics. I'm sure it could be done, and that was one of the methods I had thought of. But I'd bet making a new mouthpiece by copying the old one is cheaper, assuming, of course, that a new replacement is not available.
