The best way you can get to know him is to e-mail him at baerbrss(AT)execpc.com then get his home phone to talk with him directly. Alan is an excellent teacher and professional. Besides holding the position of principal tuba in the Milwaukee Symphony, he is an active auditioner and soloist around the world and has made finals for the vast majority of auditions he's taken. UWM also give him the opportunity to offer a student two hours of lessons per week rather than the stanard one. If you're looking to get into the professional world, he should probably be at the top of your list. Any other big name professional tuba player than knows him I'm sure would highly recommend him.

P.S. Ignore the myths about having to play a Miraphone. While most of his students do play a Miraphones, his graduate student plays a B&S F tuba and a Rudy Meinl 5/4 CC tuba. Alan won't force you into anything, though miraphones do come highly recommended.
