Hoooeeee--something really set you off, Joe!

But as a spokesman for the cutters, it might be informative for you to explain why you go to the trouble to do the key change. Is it:

1. There are no good manufactured CC tubas out there and this is the only way to get a decent-playing instrument.
2. CC tubas are way overpriced and this is the only way to pick up one at a reasonable price.
3. It's a great way for a brass tech to pick up a couple of Large in the slow season.

As an owner/player of BBb, CC and Eb tubas (no F yet), a tuba's a tuba--sing the song and push the buttons. Whatever works, use it. But with several manufacturers making some really nice CC instruments, I don't get the logic in putting in a hundred or so hours' work to create something that plays two semitones higher that might not be as good as an already-available product. Sure, it's fun for people like Rick and myself to play plumber for day, but why do the pro technicians do it?
