The thinking I've always been taught is that the less valves you have down, the less stuffy the horn will be. With a two whole step 5th valve system, like on a Mirafone 186 CC, this is especially beneficial, and I imagine would be on just about any CC tuba. An F tuba is an entirely different matter. Regardless of 5th valve, it's still going to be smoother that most CCs, so I would imagine the 5th valve likely doesn't carry as much weight of importance.
