I just did an experiment with soldering 1-1/2 inch nuts onto the back of my valve caps, and then filling the hole with solder, to try to get the same effect that a trumpet player gets from his (or her) heavy valve caps. THEY WORK GREAT!!! the horn plays veryy different if you remove the caps and play without them. Charlie Krause played my horn yesterday, and he thought they made the horn play much more solid, and gave every note a good "Core" I am very pleased with the result, but I happen to have an instrument (piggy) that has a lot of room behind the valves to add a bunch of stuff. I could probably send pictures of what I did to anyone that is interested. Just let me know.
