Bill Barber was also on Sketches of Spain and Porgy & Bess. Also played on Re-Birth of the Cool, a Gerry Mulligan effort. It contained all the same tunes as Birth of the Cool and many of the same players, except Miles, who had already passed away. It is worth a listening. He played an old rotary valve King like the one Bill Bell played. Barber was a Bell student. He played in the Kansas City in his VERY early career, before returning to NY in the 40's. You are right he was a great player! Unfortunately he's never got the recognition he deserves.
