Yamaha actually for at least some period advertised their comp euph and their comp tubas in Eb and BBb as "semidoubles".

Not at bad term at all.

Where the F side of good double horns can be played in its full range, the F side of even the best comp euphs only has been optimised to work in those section of the overall range, where the Bb side has either intonation shortcomings or will not produce any real notes. (Fake notes can be played in any range, but they take masters to make them sound well).
