Several years ago, Peter did have his Holton just about completely rebuilt by Walter Nirschl, rehammering the bell and branches (took several days), and replacing the valves and valve tubes with those from a Nirschl York. Last year, Peter bought a Nirschl York, which he tends to use more than his Holton now (San Francisco Ballet orchestra, as well as filling in at the San Francisco Symphony). I have played both horns; the Nirschl York plays easier and better in tune, but the Holton (which weighs at least half again as much as the Nirschl) has more weight of sound. Last time I asked Peter, he said he never plans to sell his Holton (which he has had since high school).

To my knowledge, Floyd Cooley does not have a Holton tuba.
