I would think it to be a 4/4 or even a small 5/4 size horn. Everyone has an ideal sound that they like...some find it in Yamaha's, some in Yorks, some Meinl's, some in Alexanders, some in B&S, etc...Sam just has his ideal sound in the Bell model. You may pick it up and think you sound bad on it compared to something else...but I think you'd have a hard time finding someone that has seen or heard Sam say that he has a small sound and needs a bigger horn.
