You'd also have to be able to adjust the valve slides to fit the other keys you want to play in. My (french) horn'as main tuning slide can be adjusted to have the horn sit in F, E, or F#, which is interesting. The best use is for a long stopped passage, where I put the horn in F#, making it unnecessary to read horn in E on an F part. On horn it is easier to bend notes, so playing in tune is not as hard as on a more centered instrument like tuba.
