Minor scales are a bit confusing. As tuba players, we need not play these types of complex scales.
A better exercise to focus on is to utilize a major scale and play the the subdominant (scale degree 4) and the tonic (scale degree 1) in a repeating pattern.
Once this concept is mastered, one may incorperate the dominant (scale degree 5) in place of the subdominant to improve technique, flexibility, and most importantly, sound production.
