I attended a masterclass by the New York Brass Quintet at Yale many years ago in which composition majors were encouraged to ask about the capabilities of the instruments. Bob Nagel, John Swallow, and Harvey double-and triple-tongued all over the place, up to high x sharp and made it look easy. Then Paul Ingraham stood up with his french horn and sheepishly confessed that he had never learned to double-tongue. But he could single-tongue faster than any of them, as he demonstrated.
