I have both music and math degrees. I was a band director for 4 years, realized that I was not the proper person for the job, and have taught other subjects for 22 years. While music is not my primary gig, it is my primary outside activity and the most fun thing I do. Even though it took me quite a while to get out of college with the double major, I haven't regretted it one second.

The coursework for my major has enriched my life beyond price, and I'm happy that I did it. I understand and appreciate many types of music. I can compose and arrange. The theory and ear training help my bass guitar playing immensely. Even the intangibles are very important to me.

Consider double majoring if you can afford the time and money, even if you're not going to be a professional musician. You'll be a better person and musician for it.
