British-style brass band offers the tuba player almost one-on-a-part pleasures, as there are traditionally only 2 Eb bass and 2 BBb bass players. The bass parts can be very interesting--and independent of the rest of the ensemble.

Nevertheless, there is a special thrill in the role of the tuba in a great symphony orchestra. Not to belittle the great brass band composers (Eric Ball, Philip Sparke, Edward Gregson, and many more), the grandeur and excitement of the orchestral music of Wagner, Bruckner, Prokofiev, etc., are very hard to beat.

So...orchestra for me.
