But even playing like that can cause thumb-hurtage. After a while I'll get a big red mark right on the soft part of the thumb and after so long of that it's all calloused. I keep meaning to make a little ring pillow for that. But it's better than straining my hand trying to push the valves with my thumb on the REAL thumb ring. Gee, I guess I'll have to play like that eventually, though, since I have a tuba with a fifth valve. Oh well.
(the thumb really went numb for weeks? wow)
