hompson and Odell founded a music store and a publishing business 1874 at Boston They took tools and stock of Hall and Quinby ( founded by the Quinby Twins Benjamin and George in 1861, dissolved 1884) and produced own instruments under the brand " Standard Band Instruments. Gautrot was founded 1835 by Gautrot and Guichard , it is said, that it was the greatest manufacturer of Brass instruments in Europe during that era. They produced first at PAris, later on ( 1849) moved to Marais and openend a second factory 1855 at Chateua Thierry (Aisne) It is reported that beginning with 1850 Gautrot opened a shop at London later in Madrid Napoli an New York. The first class instrument took the brandname Gautrot - Marquet, the second class inbstrument Gautrot - Aine. 1877 the firm renamed to Gautrot aine Durand Cie, 1883 Cuesnon is propietor, but uses still the old brand name.Because of that inaccurate inscription on bell " Gautrot and Co " Paris , it is an instrument built during the cuesnon era, and used the incorrect " Gautrot " brand only for export outside Europe.
