I joined band late in the 9th grade, and my first horn was a front-detachable-bell Mirafone 4V BBb that played really well. I ended up marching with the horn the following year, and I still shudder to think what my clumsiness did to that poor horn. By the way, it was the horn that nobody else wanted to play, because two years before, the dummy who was using it tried to clean its lacquered finish with Brasso. It peeled off about a third of the lacquer and turned the rest a flaking bilious green.
