It works, but only after a fashion. Accidentals can get to be real mental tank traps and then there's the question of what to do when the part you're reading is in 5 flats (smoke issuing from ears). The trick may well get you through a few sessions, but in the long run, it's best to learn to read the music the same way everyone else does--without "tricks".
