I'm surprised at the small number of pieces: things have really changed since I was in high school 40 years ago:

In marching season we learned a new show each week for marching band, with 3-4 new tunes each week, as well as 2-3 standards such as the school fight song, alma mater and the like, which worked out to about 20 pieces or so.

Pep band used a combination of sheet music and 3 or 4 collections in booklets (at least one new collection each year), so we probabaly played 40-50 different tunes in pep band over the course of the year (we played every home basketball game). Admittedly the pep band was pretty competitive. Most of us also played in a dance band (would be called a jazz band now), .German oompah band and a dixieland group (both of which sometimes paid). We'd do 3-4 pieces a concert for the dance band, and had another dozen or so tunes for the oompah band and a 'book' of a couple of dozen standards arranged for the dixieland group.

Concert was similar, 4-5 per concernt, 3 concerts per year with no repeat of the music.
