That is about the only real reason I can think of...on the Willson though, it is of little help, as it is a small BB-Flat and went sitting I need to rest the horn on lap, and that stupid thing pushes into my leg! I have seen some Bessons where it was removed, as it tends to make the horn "too tall" for some players to reach the mouthpiece.
