The town band I play in has the same issue as Rob PM's outfit. Many (most?) of our players are post-retirement age with bone, joint, or heart problems. We typically do two parade outings/year: Memorial day and 4th of July. Memorial day is so short (and winds through the cemetery) that we can't use a truck. In recent years, the attendance at Memorial day has suffered (5 players!) On the 4th, we use a flatbed from a local business (thank you Mr. Moore) and get good turnout with decent ability to play.

Also, I have seen in the Boston area a Dixieland group that rides a mock fire truck with a keyboard across the back and a trailer in the form of a huge fireplug. I believe they use the fireplug as a traveling storage for cases, etc. Also, of course a usual following of hopeful dogs...
