Yep, pretty amazing! They really put on a great "show", and didn't just stand up there and play. The commentary between pieces was hilarious, and their encore of "Trombonassus" (sp?) was a riot.
For all the debate that goes on here regarding piston vs. rotary, it was interesting to hear the difference in sound between piston and rotary trumpets. The rotary horns had *very* intense character, and when the group pulled out all the stops, it was an absolutely amazing wall of sound.
The stage Nazis made it tough to meet any of the players afterwards, but Walter Hilgers was nice enough to come down to the floor for some pixx. Nice guy, and a very fine player.
I guess this "Holiday Brass" series has been going on for some time now, and if the German Brass become a regular part of this tradition, I might just have to move to Manhattan!!
