They are still around but perform rarely and with vastly different personnel than in their heyday.
Don't mis-understand, the new group is made up of, overall, better musicians than before but the old trombone player was the one who hustled the jobs. He has another group that works frequently.
The lesson here is, I believe: in the music business, it isn't always how good you are, it's how much can you hustle.
