Over Thanksgiving break I bought a brand new satin silver 56j from Matt at Dillon's. I went there in search of a serious horn for college and I fell in love with the 56j. I couldn't put it down when I was there so I knew it was the horn for me. Anyway, I love my new horn but I haven't encountered the problem you describe. My main tuning slide is out about and inch or so and it plays right in tune. I find that the intonation is good over the horn but I have yet to find any quirks with it other than E natural fingered 1-2 instead of open and top space A as 3 not 1-2. I use a Conn Helleburg mouthpiece with it if that makes a difference. I think it's a great horn. It's a good combination of versatility and that big, sweet Conn sound... :-)
